Well, yet another new thing to do on the internet is upon us. It’s called FriendFeed. But what’s it for?

friendfeedYou may well have seen the brand name in the news recently, as it has been bought by the owners of Facebook for 15 million dollars in cash as well as an estimated 32 million dollars worth of Facebook shares. It must be pretty good then right?

If you’re familiar with Facebook (you may not be if you’ve been lost in a large rainforest since 1993, for example) then you’ll be au fait with this sort of thing; where your mates post links to stuff they think is funny but which you find brain-meltingly tedious. FriendFeed builds on this idea that we should spend our entire lives looking at flickering, rectangular screens.

But seriously, it aggregates all these feeds from your pals, so you can keep an eye on any entertaining stuff they dig up. But more importantly, if you yourself manage to get a list of the most hilarious or fascinating things imaginable, then your friends will probably like you a little bit more than they do already. Or possibly they won’t even look at your boring feed.

Some bloggers are a bit concerned because their content may be found via FriendFeed and thus readers will not add comments on the actual page but through FriendFeed. The worry is any ranking benefit they might normally get will be soaked up by FriendFeed.

Almost as inexplicable as twitter, this FriendFeed thing is going to be a massive hit, we reckon.
