I’ve always been on package holidays. Every year, it’s been either Spain or Greece. But last year I decided to stay in the UK for my holidays – because I thought it might be a bit cheaper (the exchange rate does not do me any favours) and because I really fancied trying one of those self catering holidays.

So I decided to go to Devon for my break. I drove down there in my space wagon, with the wife and 4 kids, and I found the cottage we booked very easily. It was in a lovely spot along the north coast of Devon, near a place called Croyde. Croyde is famous for its surfing and its sandy beaches – but we were more interested in the sandy beaches. The weather was great and the experience of being in a self catering cottage was a lot of fun. We cooked as usual (and had a few take aways I don’t mind saying), and it’s true what they say – it’s like a ‘home away from home’. Even though it was like home, it felt different – very relaxing indeed. To have your own little cottage a stones throw from the coast. I do recommend it to anyone!
