It might not come as a surprise that Google has taken over a large number of firms since 2001, but it still makes fascinating reading.
The company made just 2 acquisitions in 2001, and interestingly made no purchases in 2002. But the next year they really seemed to get their wallet out; over this twelve month period they grabbed a grand total of 6 companies. These firms included sectors as diverse as weblog software, blogging services and the web search engine Kaltix. Two of the firms were online advertising specialists.
Software giants Apple have recently confirmed the release date of their new operating system, Snow Leopard. The update, set for release on 28th August 2009, is the biggest Apple update since the move from Apple’s Classic OS in 2001.
The Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, an update to the previous 10.5.7 Leopard operating system, is focused towards improving the performance and reliability of the OS rather than adding new features. It is set to increase the performance of a 64-bit process architecture with increased RAM, improving performance and security whist remaining compatible with 32-bit software applications – a challenge which Microsoft are yet to master!
On my recent visit to Brighton with some friends, I had found that having a plan of action is absolutely imperative to actually getting to our desired destination. For some people this may be a route to the place, however for us it was simply making sure that our SAT NAV had enough battery power to last for four hours of driving. As none of us had a car, we decided to approach an affordable car hire company, who could offer us the best car to last us for a long drive starting from the early hours of the morning of Friday until late at night on Sunday.
In a recent update Google have modified their Insights for Search algorithm to include a Forcasting Feature allowing users to see how their searches are likely to progress over a 12 month period.
Insights for Search is a powerful tool which allows users to view statistics of specific search criteria over time, allowing them to gain valuable information about their relevant search queries.

As well as revealing their crystal ball of search statistics, Google have also added more visualisations to the Insights for Search via the use of an animated map. This feature allows users to visualise how their search queries change over time in various geographic locations.

I worked in retail for 8 years whilst I was in education therefore I know exactly not manic it can be. Hundreds of people rushing around to get the perfect gift for their loved ones…why bother?
