It’s always tempting to think that the worst will not happen. But when you lose important data that hasn’t been backed up it can be a real shock if you haven’t kept copies of it somewhere. For big companies, online backup is an option, but for the rest of us backing up our work can be much easier and cheaper.

colchesterIt’s been a while since I have had proper rant about the property development industry is something which winds me up at the moment. Despite the economic climate property development companies are still on a major mission to build new houses, flats, and apartments in what I would call already over-populated areas.

Off the top of my head I can think of at least four developments in the Colchester area being build in what are already highly populated areas. I am totally for building new properties, providing nice shiny new homes for people but I do wonder if the developers ever consider the sheer volume of traffic these new properties will produce?

twitterholeI don’t mean have you finally become addicted to Twitter. I mean have you recently experienced your though-to-be private tweets becoming public? People prone to making up exciting sounding names for tedious internet stuff call it a Twitter Hole.

So let’s take a close look at this Twitter Hole. The LA Times reported that some people who had set their Tweets as private have had theirs infiltrated by Google. However, it was later claimed that these were tweets that were made before the account had been set to private. “The tweets prior to that time cannot be un-cached”, as Twitter’s press office told Search Engine Land’s Danny Sullivan.

If you’re anything like me, you need to work hard to make sure corporate events are successful in terms of networking. Perhaps more than anything else, networking can help you land new business, and I remember one particular event where I had to make a good impression.

Moan About Time

Doesn’t time go fast? I know everyone says it, but it’s true. Technology seems to be moving so fast that we seem to be living in the future already. Of course, we are technically living in the future – but I mean in a Blade Runner sort of way. Alright, Blade Runner was set 2019, which gives us 10 years to be living in immense pyramidal complexes and being chased around by Rutger Hauer. Is it going to happen? Well, we’re all living in semi-detached houses and driving used Lexus cars, but that’s about it.

hd-readyI was standing a large well-know high street electronics retailer than many of you might be aware of but shall remain nameless – Bennetts I think it was called – and I saw a telly. Not really one for tellies, I hadn’t really taken the time to appreciate exactly what an amazing piece of product design high def tellies actually are.

Is there anything more satisfying than holding a nice warm print out from one of the various colour copiers available on the market today? Well, ok, there are a few things that are better, and here’s a brief list of what they definitely are:

1. Having a biblical experience with the new woman off GMTV would be better than holding a nice warm freshly copied copy out of a colour copier, wouldn’t it? Even for a woman.

2. Having a nice warm bath with the new woman off GMTV would be better than holding a nice warm colour copy in your hands.

In the UK we love our dogs. Maybe a bit too much. But we do love them, and we’ve come up with some pretty stupid techie inventions that amuse the hell out of us, but which the dogs in question would probably rather not be involved with. From dog clothes that keep the cold off to those silly flashing collars – if we can think of something vaguely amusing to dress our dogs with, we’ll do it.

When the internet started its rapid expansion, many people thought they could make money very easily. And in the early days, there was perhaps some truth in that. Since then though, making money has become much more difficult. For its part, blogging was also profitable. But that was the old days. Now bloggers find it very difficult to make a profit – mainly because they attempt to do so from advertising, which is notoriously hit-and-miss now. You have to ensure that your audience receives adverts that are very appropriate to their desires or needs.

Harsh times for Google and I don’t mean financially! It would appear that rogue sites and dodgy links are being moving higher up in their rankings. Google are being outwitted by being tricked into displaying compromising web pages as a way for cyber-criminals to hijack end user’s computers, downloading personal information and stealing credit details. One attempt that has been successful in their activities has been to entice specific groups of people by using the phrase ‘Cheap vista for students‘ in Google search terms.
